Dark mahogany in colour: integrated aromas of maple syrup, brown sugar and raisins; smooth and rich on the palate. Delicious!
The name of this sherry dates back to the 17th century when casks of sherry would be lashed to the masts of trading ships of the East India company. It was discovered that sherries that had completed the return voyage developed additional flavours and richness.
This sherry is a blend of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherries which have each been through the Lustau solera systems, with an average age of 12 years. The blended sherry is then further aged through a 45 cask solera for an average 3 years.
This sherry should be served at 10 - 12⁰C and complements desserts, creamy cheeses and foie gras.
Bodegas Emilio Lustau dates back to 1896 when José Ruiz-Berdejo, a Secretary in the Courts of Justice started making wine in his spare time to sell on to sherry producers. His daughter Maria acquired a small bodega in Jerez, to which she moved the established operation. Maria's husband, Emilio Lustau Ortega expanded the operation further and started selling their sherries themselves.
