Warming, smooth and rich. Intense flavours of ripe fruit, nuts and chocolate. In comparison with traditional ports, this is best described as between ruby and tawny.
Blend of wines and vintages using traditional Douro valley grape varieties, primarily Tinta Roriz.
Produced using similar methods to traditional Port, but fortified with neutral grape spirit rather than brandy and aged in smaller barrels. Wines used in the blend have an average age of 5 years, but the impact of the climate and aging process result in a wine that matures quicker than traditional port and has a riper, fuller flavour.
Pairs well with cheeses and chocolate desserts.
Quady Winery was established in the San Joaquin Valley in California in 1975 by Andrew and Laurel Quady. Their first product was a Zinfandel based port style wine, and they have continued to focus on fortified and dessert wines ever since. They produce award wining wines using Orange Muscat and Black Muscat grape varieties, port style wine (branded "Starboard" as Port is geographically protected,) and Vermouth. In 2005 they established a winery in Southern Oregon, Quady North which is run by son Herb, to produce wines with traditional Rhone varietals.
