Manduria is on the western side of the heel of Italy, and is considered to be the original source of the Primitivo grape. Vines are trained in in the alberello (bush,) or espallier systems.
Fermentation is controlled at 25°C followed by 1 week of maceration. The wine is aged for 6 months in large, used Slovenian oak casks before bottling.
Produttori di Manduria is a co-operative established in 1932. It currently has 400 small producers who manage 900 hectares of vineyards. Whilst working with other traditional varieties, Primitivo is the "headline act."
