Albert Doulet, Cremant de Limoux NV Limoux
Enticing aromas of green apple, pear, and citrus blossom mingle with hints of toasted almond and a subtle mineral undertone. This great value fizz is comprised of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc & Pinot Noir. Made using the same method as Champagne, and aged patiently for 18 months to develop some toasty complexity. Delicious as a stand alone drink, it also makes a mean Mimosa.
Diatomists, Medium, Singular Botas aged 19 years NV Jerez 37.5cl
Concentrated aromas of walnuts, marmalade and sultanas. A tactful balance of the sweet and savoury. Characteristics of bitter orange, fried corn and biscuit combine with velvety texture, apricot notes and a tangy finish. Try sipping this with a mince pie, or serve it alongside cheesy nibbles and nuts.
Res Fortes, Blanc 2023 Côtes du Roussillon
Easy drinking, textural dry wine. White melon and pear. Round and ripe, with mineral acidity. A brilliant food wine, this is my choice to drink with the classic prawn cocktail and smoked salmon.
Château La Tour de By, Château Cailloux de By 2020 Bordeaux
A nose full of cassis, liquorice and bramble leaf followed by a full, round palate with silky fine tannins. A traditional roast dinner calls for classic wines - my first choice this year is claret!
Bodegas Perica, Reserva "OLAGOSA" 2014 Rioja
Because one bottle of red wine won't be enough, here's something mature and complex. A balanced wine with great finesse and length. The nose is intense and aromatic with a mixture of juicy red and black fruit, woody cedar and warm notes of oak, cocoa and coffee. The palate boasts good acidity and soft tannin with full concentration.
Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered 2018 Port
If you still have space for the cheese and Port, here is my choice. Red cherries, blackberries and sloes. Rich fruit, super smooth but vibrant enough to make you want more.
