Sebastien Treuillet is the first vigneron in his farming family. They were all cereal producers previously. Sebastien is still in charge of 140 hectares of cereals in addition to his 12 hectares of vines. His vines are mostly in the Pouilly-Fume appellation, but he also has 3.5 ha in the Coteaux du Giennois and 2 ha of vin de pays. 'I got into vines and wine when I was about 15 because I had a friend in Sancerre whose family were vignerons and I used to go and stay there,' Sebastien explains. 'After working for Pierre Dezat (Verdigny) and then the Champaults (Champtin) in Sancerre, I went out on my own in 1991.'
He owns a variety of parcels on various soils. With very little soil, argile-kimmeridgean, sandy soils and some caillottes limestone predominated. Sebastien uses the Courson-Royat pruning system on his argile-kimmeridgean soils, which he finds keeps yields down, whereas on his more sandy soils he uses the Guyot system, which is traditional in this area.
