On the nose, wild berries and forest floor mingle with game and chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish.
100% Pinot Noir
This monopole Clos from the Porrets-St-Georges vineyard has a lot of energy and intensity. It's very stony and situated on the mid slope, with vines ranging in age from 15 to 30 years, with some reaching 60 years. Again, that lovely, complex perfume based on plum and liquorice with a few wilder elements. Oak is more visible, but only just. Will age beautifully.
Henri Gouges' bottles are instantly recognisable for their distinctive green labels, while the wines themselves have always been identified by their very sturdy tannic structure, which requires a lot of time, love, and patience in the cellar for them to come around. This is no longer the case, with riper fruit and tannins in the vineyard and less extractive cellar practises, and yet the wines remain among the best in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Gregory Gouges, Henri's great grandson, now makes the wine for this 15-hectare domain.
