Matthias Meierer produced this wine to demonstrate the potential of the riesling grape!

It is made using the best grapes from the best locations on his steeply sloping vineyards, picked on the last day of harvest. The grapes are then processed as if producing a red wine: grapes are crushed and fermentation takes place on the skins, allowing the extraction of tannins.

The wine is bottled using gravity, without fining and with minimum use of sulfur dioxide.

The Meierer winery is located at the foot of the Paulinsberg mountain, with the cellars driven into the side of the mountain. They own vineyards on the slopes of Paulinsberg and the smaller Paulinshofberg, which joins the larger and renowned Brauneberger Juffer.

Winemaker Matthias Meierer established his winery in 2006, but only worked in it part time, as he enhanced his experience by working with other renowned winemakers. In 2008 he won Young Winemaker of the Year, and since then has concentrated on his own business. His passion is riesling, and he works in every stage of the process, from vineyard to winery. He believes that only through this attention to detail can he produce wines that truly reflect the character of the grape and terroir that produced it.
