Caiño Longo 60%: Brancellao 40%. Both are traditional Galician varietals
Pepe Quecuty worked with renowned Spanish wine maker Raúl Pérez before establishing Viñedos do Gabián in Galicia in the north western corner of Spain. In 2011 he planted 3 hectares of traditional varieties Caiño Longo and Brancellao. The vineyard is composed of traditional Galician sabrego soils, (sandy, decomposed granite,) at 250 meters elevation with gently sloping terrain that forms a natural amphitheater. Farming and management is organic, but not certified.
Grapes are picked by hand. Whole bunch grapes from different plots and varieties are fermented separately in used French oak or stainless steel vats, using natural yeasts. The wine is aged for 10 months in 4 sizes of used French oak barrels, before blending and bottling with only very light filtration.
