Pinot Noir 96%; Syrah 3%; Merlot 1%
Produced with grapes grown in Recas in western Romania. The vineyards, some of which date back to 1447, have soils that are rich in iron oxide, at an elevation of 250m.
The pressed grapes underwent a 7 day maceration and fermentation before the wine is drawn off to undertake malolactic fermentation. There is no exposure to oak, so the fresh fruit flavours are preserved.
The wine is produced by the Cramele Recas estate, owned by an English and Romanian husband and wife team: Philip and Elvira Cox. They regularly host "Flying Winemakers" to enhance the knowledge and experience of the winery team, challenge established practice and introduce new ideas. This wine was produced under the guidance of Australian Hartley Smithers and demonstrates a new world style.
