A complex mix of grapes from Ricca Terra farm's extensive portfolio of varieties. The principal component is Tempranillo.
Grapes are harvested by hand, then chilled to 4⁰C before crushing to help preserve the fresh fruit flavours. The wine is aged for 12 months in 3rd or 4th fill French Oak barrels.
Viticulturalist Ashley Ratcliffe is an outspoken champion of the Australian Riverland area. Whilst the region does produce large quantities of grapes for mass market brands, he has demonstrated that planting and nurturing the right varieties and attention to detail in the winery can result in wines to match those from more prestigious regions.
His approach at Ricca Terra has been to plant multiple small plots of wide varieties of vine then watch their development and assess the quality of the fruit produced. Successful combinations of vine and terroir are scaled up for inclusion in his wine blends.
