Selected grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The must is gravity fed into stainless steel tanks where it is cool fermented for approximately 15 days.

Casa da Calçada was built in 1707. It was already producing wines when Napoleon's invading army took up residence in 1809 - reputedly extending their stay there to take advantage of the Casa's wine supplies!

The current business was established by Lago Cerqueira in 1917. Despite being one of the oldest vineyards in the region, the business has been one of the great innovators in vineyard and winery methods, and was the first producer to export Vinho Verde wines.
