Syrah 50%; Carignan 37%; Mourvèdre 13%.
Produced with grapes grown in Pasarene's Tulbagh vineyards, an up and coming area in the Breede River Valley. It has a hot climate, with decomposed shale soils. The wine was aged for 16 months in old oak barrels.
Paserene is a small, family operated winery owned by Martin Smith, the winemaker and businessman Ndabe Mareda. The winery name is derived from the Latin Passeriformes: the family of birds that includes swifts and swallows. These birds migrate between Africa and Europe. A route that is often traveled by young winemakers as they gain experience in different countries.
