Grapes are grown in vineyards in Sommacampagna, south of Lake Garda. Between 100 and 150 meters above sea level, the soils are moraine, containing residue from previous glacier coverage. On arrival at the winery, grapes are destemmed and crushed before a short cold maceration. Fermentation is in stainless steel, temperature controlled vats.
"Fra" in the company name is Venetian for Friar: a reference to the monastery that was established on the site in 1492. The first reference to wine production on the site is a lease document from 1619 which granted the Friars rights to establish vineyards on adjacent lands. The Bonomo family have owned the estate since 1958. Now in the hands of the third generation, Marica, Silvia and Massimo Bonomo respect the family traditions of producing wine that reflects the characteristics of the land and traditional grape varieties and ensuring the application of sustainable practices in the vineyards and winery.
