About Marqués de Murrieta
Marqués de Murrieta has one of the richest histories in Rioja. They can lay claim to the creation of the style we know today. In 1852, Peruvian-born Luciano Francisco Ramon de Murrieta produced his first wine in Logroño, using techniques he learnt in Bordeaux. 30 years later the Ygay estate was established.
In 1983 the Cebrián-Sagarriga family took over the property and in 2007 they started a 7 year restoration process, finally opening their doors in 2014. We were lucky enough to be one of the first groups to visit the newly restored castle.
