Capellanía single-vineyard. Planted in 1945 located on a plateau at an altitude of 485 metres, the highest point of the Ygay Estate, our 300-hectare estate in Rioja Alta.
Aged for a year and a half in new French oak barrels and one year in bottle; giving an astonishing complexity, structure and elegance. It is a very special white wine, with the soul and texture of a red wine which surprises all who taste it. A white wine that exceeds all expectations with its complexity and structure. Perfect to accompany a great variety of rich dishes, with a magnificent potential to evolve and age gracefully.
If you want to be blown away then the Castillo Ygay Blanco Gran Reserva Especial 1986 is a must try. At the cool sum of £480 it is not cheap but it is one of the best wines we have ever had the pleasure of trying. Contact [email protected] for more information.
About Marqués de Murrieta
Marqués de Murrieta has one of the richest histories in Rioja. They can lay claim to the creation of the style we know today. In 1852, Peruvian-born Luciano Francisco Ramon de Murrieta produced his first wine in Logroño, using techniques he learnt in Bordeaux. 30 years later the Ygay estate was established.
In 1983 the Cebrián-Sagarriga family took over the property and in 2007 they started a 7 year restoration process, finally opening their doors in 2014. We were lucky enough to be one of the first groups to visit the newly restored castle.
