Malbec 85%; Cabernet Sauvignon 7%; Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot 8%.
Produced with grapes grown at 1,200 meters in Altamira, in the southern Uco valley. The soils here are unique: patches of sand, silt and stone soils are found within the same area, with the stony areas having distinct white round stones that are coated with calcium carbonate.
The Malbec grown in these conditions is full of rich fruit flavours. These are complemented by the addition of the other varieties, which add elegance and floral aromas resulting in a sophisticated wine, more reminiscent of Old World style.
The wine is aged for 15 months in 225 Litre French Oak barrels, of which 20% are new.
Manos Negras is a project of Alejandro Sejanovich, one of Argentina's star viticulturists. He pioneered high altitude vineyards at Bodega Catena Zapata, and is a renowned expert on Malbec clones. He describes Manos Negras as a latitude project: Torrontes is grown in northern Salta; Pinot Noir in the most southern region of Neuquen in Patagonia. He also has plantings of 50 year old Malbec vines in the renowned Altamira region of the Uco Valley.
