Syrah/Shiraz 51%; Grenache/Garnacha 32%; Mourvèdre 17%.
The shiraz is produced on old vines in the Krondorf and Ebenezer areas of the Barossa valley. The grenache is grown on old bush vines in the Tanunda and Ebenezer areas and the mourvèdre on old bush vines in Light Pass.
Fermentation took place in small, open top stainless steel tanks, with a portion of the grenache added as whole bunches. The wine was matured for 15 months in 300L French oak hogsheads, 10% of the barrels being first fill.
John Duval is one of the worlds great wine makers. He honed his skills working with Max Schubert at Penfolds. He became chief winemaker at Penfolds in 1986, assuming responsibility for producing Australia's greatest red wine: Penfolds Grange.
He left to set up his own operation in 2003. The grapes are sourced from long term friends whose vineyards are planted with vines 50 - 100 years old. The first wine he produced was the Plexus Shiraz Grenache Mourvédre. Building on that success, John Duval now have a range of structured, elegant wines, all produced with grapes from exceptional old Barossa vineyards.
