Produced with organic grapes which were gently pressed then the juice clarified by settling. 65% was fermented in neutral oak barrels which adds complexity and body to the wine. The wine was not fined before bottling.

Mike and Claire Allan established Huia Vineyards in 1996 after time spent learning about winemaking at a variety of businesses including Cloudy Bay, Lawson's Dry Hills, Veuve Cliquot and Taittinger. Their 9 hectares of vineyards are located in Rapaura, on what is known locally as the "Golden Mile," close to the Wairau River. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically. The underlying Philosophy of Huia is a natural approach to winemaking, working in harmony with their environment.
