This wine is produced primarily with grapes from Vajra's vineyards in Barolo and Novello. The vines are currently 4 - 7 years old: in a few years time the grapes will be used for producing Barolo wine. The blend is enriched with grapes growing on the steep, south facing terraces of the renowned Roccabella vineyard in Sinio.
Grapes were fermented with native yeasts for 21 days with daily punching down and gentle pumpovers to aid extraction. The wine was aged for 6 months, mostly in stainless steel tanks, but a portion in neutral oak barrels.
G D Vajra wines was established in Vergne in Barolo by winemaker Aldo Vajra in 1972: the business was named in honour of his father, Giuseppe Domenico. Aldo's wine making is based on the traditional practices, but with the introduction of techniques that support the production of elegant wines, with pristine flavours and aromas. Aldo was one of the first winemakers in Barolo to adopt organic practices.
