The vineyard soils in Beaumont-Monteux are clay - limestone, covered in rounded pebbles, galets, which aid drainage and retain heat to support grape ripening. Grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed before fermentation in thermo regulated stainless steel vats with regular rack and return processing to aid extraction of flavour and colour. The wine is aged in oak casks for 9 months before bottling.
Étincelle is French for spark. This wine is named after a significant moment in winemaker Denis Basset's life. He accidentally touched a high voltage electricity cable and almost died. As he recovered in his hospital bed he decided he was going to fulfill a long held ambition and become a winemaker. He established Domaine Saint Clair and has rapidly built a reputation as a producer of quality, good value wines.
