£21.95

This entry-level red Burgundy from Domaine Lebreuil has an attractive red cranberry nose, wild dark fruit on the palate. Quite simple but with balanced acidity and tannin, this is a good place to start with pinot noir.

Description

100% Pinot Noir

Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil owns 2.5 hectares of Pinot Noir vines in Bourgogne, divided into three parcels with distinct soils and microclimates. The interaction of these three origins contributes to this cuvée's exceptional complexity, flavour, and style. The vines have an average age of 35 years. At an elevation of 300 metres, the largest Bourgogne holding is located in the upper part of the village of Savigny. Lebreuil trains these vines high in order to give the grapes maximum sun exposure. Harvesting is done entirely by hand. This parcel is harvested last, 7-10 days after the smaller parcels at lower altitudes and on richer soils, which are harvested first.

The fruit is completely de-stemmed and macerated for 8 days to improve the wine's colour and aroma. Lebreuil then raises the temperature to 22 degrees Celsius to allow natural alcoholic fermentation to begin without the addition of yeast. It lasts 7 days and requires only one pumping per day to avoid over-extraction and harsh tannins. Similarly, Lebreuil lightly pressed the solids before allowing the juice to clarify naturally in tanks for two days. The wine is then aged for 10 months, half in neutral barrels and half in tank, to ensure its fruity and approachable qualities. It's a classic Burgundy with a refined Savigny-les-Beaune pedigree.
