Shiraz / Syrah 100%.
The wine is named in honour of Carl Lindner who was a vocal champion of old vine shiraz in the Barossa Valley.
The grapes are grown 75 kilometers north east of Adelaide at Dandelion's Kinkora vineyard in Tanunda. The vines range from 35 to 108 years old. Dandelions are grown amongst the vines, to supress weeds and to be mulched into the soil. Grapes were harvested by hand then gently crushed and fermented with natural yeasts for 8 days in open top vats. During tis time the cap was hand plunged, twice a day, to aid extraction. The wine was run through a basket press and transferred to a mixture of new and aged French oak barriques for fermentation to complete. The wine was aged for 18 months in barriques before bottling without filtration or fining.
Dandelion Vineyards is run by winemaker Elena Brooks and her husband Zar. They have their own old vineyards and also source grapes from small family growers with heritage vine stocks.
