Produced with grapes harvested from different sites on the Quinta da Leda estate in the east of the Douro Superior, close to the Spanish border. The land consists of rolling hills on the south bank of of the Douro. The varying terrain, with different aspects creates a variety of microclimates, which have been matched to the needs of different grape varieties by the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro de Vila Real.
At the winery, grapes are destemmed before gentle crushing then fermentation in stainless steel tanks. There is an extended post-fermentation maceration to aid extraction. The wine is aged for 18 months, 75% in used French oak and 25% new American oak barrels. After blending, the wine has a gentle filtration prior to bottling.
