94% Tempranillo, 4% Graciano
Bodegas Roda was founded in the late 1980s in Haro has quickly become know for its meticulous research into Tempranillo, Spain's foremost grape variety. Roda have identified 552 individual clones, only 20 of which have been selected for propagation in specific vineyards. Renowned Rioja expert Agustin Santolaya, President and Supervising Winemaker, supervises 28 immaculate blocks of old Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano vines, located in La Rioja Alta.
Roda Reserva Rioja grapes are sourced from 30 year old bush vines and limited to a yield of 1.5 kgs of grapes per vine to encourage phenolic maturity. The result is more depth and complexity on the palate. At the winery, the grapes undergo cold maceration followed by temperature controlled fermentation finished off in French oak vats. This is followed by a malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and then aged for 14 months in barrel (40% new and 60% second use French oak). The wine is then aged 30 months in bottle before release.
