Tempranillo 90%; Garnacha and Graciano 10%.
Grapes are selected from younger vines in the Campoluengo, Las Rozas, Castillejo, El Romeral, Agozaderas and El Plano vineyards located around Lanciego. The vineyards range between 500 meters and 700 meters above sea level. The sandstone plateaus have shallow stone and silt soils and the hillside areas deeper, fine textured marl and limestone.
Grapes are manually harvested into small crates. A small proportion of the crop is crushed as whole bunches. Fermentation is with natural yeasts in small concrete vats. The wine is aged in concrete tanks for 6 months.
Bodega Lanzaga is a project of Telmo Rodríguez, a passionate advocate of traditional Spanish wines. Telmo believes that wines should reflect the character of the origins: the grape variety and location. The winery established by Telmo's family is in Remelluri in Rioja Alavesa. Whilst working there, Telmo began investigating historical vineyards and was inspired by a number of locations around Lanciego. He started to acquire vineyard sites and after restoring them, their grapes were used to produce Bodega Lanzaga wines. Rather than producing blended bulk wine he produces a range of individual wines, including single vineyard.
