Grenache Noir 100%
The Besson vineyard, the source of the grapes for this wine, was planted in 1910. The flavour concentration is further enhanced by subjecting a portion of the grapes to the appassimento process - allowing whole clusters to dry in the sun for 10 - 12 days.
Alex Krause and John Locke own no vineyards and share a winery but have great relationships with owners of small vineyards that were planted in the late 19th - early 20th century. The specialise in less fashionable grapes and make their wine simply to give prominence to the grape and terroir. A small scale operation - they say that they make less wine than some of the major Californian producers spill - their objective is to "add a little joy to the world."
