Sauvignon Blanc 49%; Semillon 26%; Chardonnay 25%.
This innovative blend was developed to emphasise the influence of the sandstone soils of the Hemel en Aarde valley.
Each variety was fermented individually prior to blending: the Chardonay fermented in terracotta amphorea made by Manetti in Chianti; the Semillon in neutral oak barrels; the Sauvignon Blanc split between Manetti amphorae and neutral barrels.
Ashbourne Wines was established in 1996 by Anthony Hamilton Russell, who is also the owner of the wonderful Hamilton Russell and Southern Right South African wine brands. The name is a tribute to Anthony's great, great grandfather, Lord Ashbourne, who was Lord Chancellor of Ireland in the late 1800's.
Anthony's goal for Ashbourne wines is "to grow and make unusual, classically styled wines with a true South African personality, that belong in the company of the world's benchmarks."
